RS232 Data Logger

Record serial port activity into a text file.

RS232 Data Logger records all serial communication data into a text file.

RS232 Data Logger allows you to redirect all communication data from RS232 compliant serial port device into a text file for further analysis. RS232 Data Logger redirects data from any available serial port (doesn't matter whether it is virtual or real one) and works under Virtual Machine (VMWare). You can gather data from multiple serial ports simultaneously.

RS232 Data Logger is an absolutely FREE Open Source application, which means you can freely use it, study, change and improve.

Common objectives and our solutions:

  • Log serial COM port
  • Track serial dataflow changes

RS232 Data Logger has a simple interface, so to begin serial logging you just need to select the serial port, choose where to file serial communication data, define COM port's parameters and click "start". Logs in the text file will represent all details about serial port communications and RS232 dataflow. For instance, RS232 Data Logger can parse global positioning data (coordinates) from GPS device connected to your notebook to track your movement.

Test communication between serial com port application and devices
  • Test RS232 communication between serial port devices and applications
  • Pick up general information on serial communication

RS232 Data Logger can be installed and used under Virtual Machines, like VMWare or Virtual PC. Such functionality can be successfully used for testing. Our serial port logger is great for learning purposes, too. It traces serial port state in real-time and collects precise data about real RS232 connection and serial dataflow exchange in your system. This gives real life examples of how connection between any serial COM port and applications establishes and how it develops. With RS232 Data Logger it's simple to see and learn how serial ports work!

  • Set specific COM port parameters
  • View total bytes in file/bytes received from port

RS232 Data Logger lets you select communication parameters to match serial port you want to log. Out serial logger gives you options for defining baudrate settings, stop bits, number of bits to transmit, parity checking and flow control types. RS232 Data Logger always displays real-time information about data received from the selected port and total bytes in the logging file respectively. This information is useful to check whether the communication data is correctly logged.

RS232 Data Logger is aimed to assist:

  • Developers, who work with serial ports
  • Programmers, who develop software that interacts with serial port

RS232 Data Logger advantages:

  • The only FREE serial port logger, constantly updated and supported!
  • Saves precise serial communication data into a simple text file
  • Works under Virtual Machines
  • Logs up to 256 serial COM ports in real-time
  • Source code is provided (MFC/C++ VC7.1)

RS232 Data Logger overview:

  • Select the file to put down incoming data to for each port
  • Append incoming data to already existing file
  • Specify serial port connection parameters (baudrate, parity, stop bits, flow control, data bits)
  • Redirect incoming data stream into a text file from several serial ports simultaneously
  • Collect data from the real serial ports as well as from virtual ones
  • Disable/enable logging on-the-fly
  • Real-time counter of the received and stored bytes
