Common objectives and our solutions:

disable infrared port
  • Disable serial port
  • Create two ports instead of one

By default, Windows Mobile offers a limited number of serial ports (COM0-COM9). This can be very insufficient sometimes, but Serial Splitter Mobile gives a proper solution to this. In case of serial ports names shortage you can disable existing ports and create virtual serial ports instead, to use them to fill your own requirements. Disabled ports preserve their state even after system reboot.

For instance, you have port COM3 (as a rule, infrared port) and COM6 (with GPS device) in PDA. The only free port on your device is COM0. You need to split COM6 into 2 ports, so that it could be used by 2 applications. With Serial Splitter Mobile you can disable COM3 and, once it is released, split COM6 into 2 virtual ports, COM0 and COM3. Now you can launch 2 applications: one from COM0 and the other one from COM3 - they both will work simultaneously with the same GPS device.

split Windows Mobile/CE serial port
  • Split serial COM port
  • Use GPS signal in two programs simultaneously

For instance, you are developing an application which needs to read the GPS COM port from a Pocket PC device. In the same device you have a navigation program. You can install Serial Splitter Mobile to create 2 virtual ports and use both applications at once.

One more example: You have COM1 port in your PDA. External GPS Box is plugged to this port, sending some information. You can open COM1 in your application to receive this stream of information and also send some information to this Box to control it. But some second application on this PDA needs to be connected to the same port COM1, too. Using Serial Splitter Mobile you can split COM1 port into virtual COM4 and COM5 ports. Now you can open COM4 in the first application and COM5 in the second one. In this case both applications get the same incoming stream of data from external GPS Box connected physically to real serial port COM1.

  • Control access of several applications to a serial COM port
  • Set access mode for every created port

With Serial Splitter Mobile you can prevent writing to serial port and set read-only or read-and-write access for every created port. If you make serial ports "read-only", you will be able to retrieve, read data and record the real port activity.

For example, you have two Pocket PC applications that can control a GPS device. Both ports should not have READ and WRITE rights in this case. Using Serial Splitter Mobile you can specify READ ONLY rights for one port on your Windows Mobile/CE device, so that one of the applications can only receive GPS data, while the other one can manage GPS device.

Testimonials

I used Serial Splitter when I was developing an application which needed to read GPS serial port from a Pocket PC device. In the same device I had a navigation program. I was lucky to find your Serial Splitter for Windows CE, which created me 2 virtual ports to use both applications and complete my project successfully.
